I think David Steel's original dismissal of the Cyril Smith allegations as harmless spanking, and Clegg's earlier deference to Smith probably caused some damage
Current politicians won't be blamed but Parliament is still full of earlier generations. It will affect the Tory party imho - seen as the party of establishment, with the Eton brigade at the top. Corbyn will also be damaged by his inaction in Islington
