You do realise The Civil Service do most of the government's work. Ministers can not and should not do everything.

Legal Aid cuts stopped the local resident group legally forcing their concerns over the safety concerns they had. As stated by Daphne Romney QC.

I have no idea what 1996 or New Labour have to do with it something to do with the power of suggestion, I suppose.  Then again  there is Lakanal House fire and subsequent super inquest and recomendations that have not been implemented as from 3rd July 2009.

There was a chance to end tower block fires in 2009 - we missed it

I would suggest its more to do with showing empathy

Tensions, and emotions, are high. People are, rightfully, angry at what has happened and the council are the most obvious target for their questions. The council's lack of support won't have helped matters either, not to mention this just being the straw to break the camel's back.

There are residents on the KCTMO Board with purpose of representing the people who live in the blocks. The refurbishment was done because the tower residents requested it.

Most importantly we do not know what caused the fire yet so blaming anyone or anything at this stage serves no purpose.
