I totally agree that Building Regulations need to change - and I would also include looking at the basic design of buildings like this. There is no doubt that much of the Social Housing built in this country since the 60's is in many ways dangerous and unsuitable for habitation, given the amount of housing stock that is I doubt that much can change no matter how desirable.

So I still dont share your view that putting Councils in total charge of Social Housing would be a desirable outcome - we had that and its turned into a disaster.

I wanted to pick you up on the Council were no where to be seen comment, for those on social housing maybe that may have been a point, I say may as their has been no factual evidence to show this. But I should remind you those with home insurance, it's up to their insurers to help them out, not the Council or government, if you house burns down, see how far you get calling the local council and government.

I am yet to see Corbyn get a rough ride from the BBC..

I'm assuming you didn't watch any of the interviews he did prior to the election then??

The BBC and especially Paxman are very biased.

the building was designed so that each flat was a self-contained unit in as much as any fire would not spread for at least one hour. The cladding turned it into a massive fireball because of the materials used in its construction and because it acted like a chimney drawing air up and quickly fanning flames upwards. There is no way on earth it should have been fitted no matter how legal it may be.They did it so save money which is outrageous.
On top of that, they did not for a sprinkler system To add insult to injury a local councilor chose to pass the buck by blaming the residents claiming they didn't want it.All new buildings have such a system but there seems to be some penny pinching when it comes to installing in the older ones. Then there was no fire alarm and no official arrived on site until several had passed after the fire began. No, I am afraid I disagree with you.I say let's bring social housing back under local authority control with proper regulations safeguarding the residents

From today's Guardian Live blog @14.37 -
Your point is irrelevant in this case.

Where have you been for the last 2 years ? He's had an extremely rough ride from the media and the BBC in particular. May's honeymoon period is over, she's being asked probing questions. As anyone who holds the office of Prime Minister should be.

I'm sorry, but you really have no idea about the area. It is predominantly social housing and alao includes tenants from surrounding properties that have been evacuated from their homes.
Friends of mine who used to live there have been helping out for several daya and all the aid, and the monumental task of sorting it all, has been organised by public volunteers. There is no official presence on scene. I'm sure there is some council help going on in the background, but it's only the tight community there that is keeping it all together at the moment

Impartial or not, Theresa May's interview was a disgrace. She is not equipped to deal with this and it shows...it was an embarrassment. I'm a Conservative voter, this has nothing to do with politics, she's just not a capable leader.
