Genuine question.  Does anyone here know how the border between Ireland and Northern Ireland works at the moment.

Is it just like crossing over between West Sussex and Surrey - a sign by the road saying "Wecolme to xxxxx".  Or are there some controls?

The reason I ask is that when everyone was talking about CM2.0 yesterday it was as if it solved the border issue - but I noticed that there were also reports that there are border controls between Norway and Sweden (described as one of the most frictionless borders in the world but can still take upto 20 minutes at peak times).  The prospect of an Irish Border was never mentioned in relation to CM2.0.

Hi mate

cm 2.0 was more of a Norway plus, the plus being so there would be no need for border controls.

There is currently  no controls and I believe bringing back any controls would go against the good friday agreement

So was that the EU that had said that CM2.0 would not need Border Controls or was it one of the UK's unilateral wishes yet to be agreed?

EU are strongly against a hard border, hence there insistance of the Irish Sea backstop, it is there insurance policy against it happening

I think the key difference between the proposal and Norways current arrangement is the inclusion of a customs union

Customs and borders are not covered at all in the GFA. It's a myth that customs controls would breach it.
