I would argue that what you have suggested was impossible as has been demonstrated over the last two years, because you need agreement for this in the HoC. And there are a lot of people opposed to this because of the impact to businesses (as they see it).
This is not an argument about whether there is an impact to business because no one will agree, but some MPs do agree and will vote with what they consider are best interests of this country (which is their first duty)
Knowing how split the house was on the vote, how the last GE went, it would have made a lot more sense trying to have a cross party team to come up with a consensus on the way forward, not in the 11th hour, but 2 years ago. |
