I thinks the stuff on the left is mainly short stories, antho's stuff like that

No I do not know why there is a dust jacket by itself

Good space management

That Castaways is made out of some weird fibre stuff, I wouldn't want to hold it long enough to read

Never read this, or anything by the author

Trouble is I get carried away, like I bought about 40 or so then didn't buy any for like two or three years so a few weeks back I realised that there was loads of new ones to buy that I'd missed out on so over the last month I've bought...

Dark Tower Omnibus
Marvel Monsters
Civil War: Avengers
World War Hulk
Civil War: Fantastic Four
Civil War: The Underside
Civil War: X-Men
Messiah Complex
Invincible Iron Man v1
Invincible Iron Man v2
X-Schism
Thanos Imperative
Civil War: Spider-Man
Civil War: Frontline
Annihilators
Avengers Disassembled
House of M: Spider-Man, Fantastic Four & X-Men
House of M: Wolverine, Iron Man & Hulk
House of M: No More Mutants
Thor by J. Michael Stracynski
Realm of Kings
Avengers X-Sanction
X-Men: Age of X
Hulk No More
Incredible Hulk: World War Hulks

That photo with a pic of like six of the above just happened to be the six that got delivered that day, don't have pics of the rest. I've got another four books on order which should come tomorrow then I'm onto the omnibus editions (£60 a pop) I have maybe 8 or 9 of those I want then that'll wipe me out for another couple of years while I read them. Those Hachette books will have to keep me going till I feel another splurge building.

That really is a lot of books!

Have added to my New Naturalist collection, bought a second brand new one (No. 106: Dragonflies) and some more in local second-hand shops and an old bookshop this week while on holiday in Suffolk. Also added a Collins book Haunts of British Divers by Niall Rankin, a first edition from 1947 with a rather tatty dust jacket. Am buying the ones I'm interested in reading rather than just collecting them (which would cost a fortune to complete the set!), though there's an element of that as I've bought an original first edition copy of 'London's Natural History' where I had a cheap Bloomsbury reprint... the original Collins is so much nicer and the plates are in colour rather than just mono.

I now have:

3. London's Natural History (1945 1st edition)
4. Britain's Structure and Scenery (1946 1st edition)
10. British Plant Life (Bloombury 1989 reprint)
12. The Sea Shore (1961 reprint)
20. The British Amphibians and Reptiles (1973 reprint)
21. British Mammals (Bloombury 1989 reprint)
38. The World Of Spiders (1976 reprint)
52. Woodland Birds (1971 1st edition)
63. British Thrushes (1978 1st edition)
106. Dragonflies (current 2008 1st edition)
110. Wildfowl (current 2009 1st edition)

Woodland Birds is one I'd really wanted and was really pleased to find a copy in the bookshop in Westleton on holiday. They had a 'collectors' copy with good condition dust jacket for £35 but I bought the £10 copy they had without a dust jacket... didn't think the other one was worth £25 more.

Wow...how many books?   I'm a bit of a King fan too, only book of his I ever gave up on was Lisey's Story, must try it again

Can anyone recommend good places to buy big collections of books in one hit?  e.g. all of one author.  I recently replaced most of my ageing (and falling apart) King collection with a set of 26 hardbacks from Books Direct (for under £30 ), just before they went out of business.  Ok so they're book club editions, but still fantastic value for money

How many are they if you have number 110 in the series?.

They were leafing through this huge book once on a Nature doc I was watching and it was full of amazingly detailed birds of paradise, allsorts, book was like two feet tall from Victorian era. All colours and everything were still immaculate, probably only aristocracy could have bought a copy back in day, now it'll cost thousands.

Don't bother, it's the only King book I've not enjoyed at all, it's the book he always quotes as being his best/favourite when asked as well.

I got loads of those King hardbacks too even though I already had them, the small editions with the funky oranges and yellows and the yucky yucky font.

Try book people, they always seem to sell collections, like ten books by whoever for xx.

That sounds a bit like John James Audubon's Birds of America:

BBC News - Inside Audubon's Birds, the world's 'most expensive' book

The New Naturalists are up to 119 (listed here), number 120 out in July (Grasshoppers and Crickets) and there is a series of 22 accompanying monotypes on certain species ('The House Sparrow', 'The Badger', 'The Yellow Wagtail' and so on - even one dedicated to Lords and Ladies!). Some are pretty rare as were low print runs and can cost hundreds but the nost expensive one I have bought is The World of Spiders, which cost me £35. Have paid £10-15 for most of the second-hand ones and the new ones are about £30-33 on amazon.
