We took our boys to Khao Lak in November last year. Boys are 5 and 12 and had a great time. The area is family friendly, plenty of bars and restaurants but without the noise and bustle of Phuket. We flew into Phuket via Dubai and its then around an hours drive to the resort.
Massive part of the town was wiped out in the tsunami and they've rebuilt lots of it but hotels are restricted to 3 stories so no hi-rise buildings. Khao Lak is tourist orientated but I can honestly say that in the 2 weeks we were there we only saw 1 'drunk' person. I think most of the partygoers stay in Phuket. Thoroughly recommend having a look at it. I was worried about taking the family to Thailand (like you I had been about 16 years ago) and I had a worry a lot of the resorts may have turned into little Benidorm (no disrespect to Benidorm!) |
