You should hear the Gruppe M, best induction kit I have EVER heard on a K20. That said, for the price I would damn well hope so lol

This is the unashamed Tegiwa copy, the same in every way except it's less than half the price of the gruppe m and runs about 2-5bhp more on the dyno than the original, not that dyno figures are gospel, mind you

This thread seems to have kicked off pretty well.

Hadn't realised that we have so many members interested in getting a bit more performance and even better, not interested in shiny bits either.

Intakes and exhausts are always a sore point, not just from costs, but as you've all said, sorting out the good from the bad,and also the downright rubbish.

Grangey's comments about 5" exhausts are right on the money....we see so many around where I live with 1.2-1.6L engines running through these enormous pipes, which you know are losing them torque and likely power into the bargain,or loading the poor car down with tons of plastic tat,and neons, but the best of all have to be exhaust flame kits....utterly hilarious.

Since I bought mine,it's had the stock intake, which was OK-ish up to about 330bhp,followed by a Forge kit, which is very nicely made, and definitely flows a lot more air,and finally an ITG,which is good for 500 bhp worth of flow.

The interesting point (for car nuts I guess!) is that the ITG does give about another 10bhp over the already good Forge,so even at that level there are some that are better.

How do you lose torque and not power given power = revs x torque?

One of the best built in the uk?

I'm sorry but I have to disagree, and you reckon you've spent about 20 grand including the price of the car?!

Maybe if you had paid for labour, but you say you done the work yourself, care to give me a breakdown on the price of parts?

You say "not the usual boy racer rubbish" yet some of your parts are some of boy racers finest lol

Without trying to cause offence you come across as the type of peson that would think there car could beat anything on the road.

Exceeded 155mph?? I take it this was on a private runway? You do realise speedos are inaccurate especially at high speeds?

I take it you get about a 4 second 0-60 too lol

I said torque and likely power as well,so you are in fact more correct in your definition, but what I was getting at was that those drainpipes fitted to ordinary chavved up motahs(!) simply lose back pressure and often diminish performance as opposed to improving it.

They do of course make a lot more noise, which is no doubt what Barry was after in the first place, but I hope this thread doesn't turn into one of those!

Plus the fact they look like absolute idiots aswell.

Nothing worse than hearing a car before you see it and then being able to jog quicker than it passes you

I don't mind a loud roar when a car is actually moving somewhere.

I remember when I was in a custom exhaust place getting a cat back system fitted, a young guy was there in a banger of a fiesta, it had hubcaps and there was so much gap between the wheels and arches you could stick your head there lol, he wanted a back box, and when asked what sort of sound he wanted the young guy says "I don't want anything too loud, just a rumble like a scooby" lol

I also love the people that paint their drums bright colours, little tip you shouldn't be drawing attention to the fact you have drums for brakes lol

Exactly. Why the "likely" when it's "definitely"? Anyway, I'll shut up now

Back on topic, it' very hard to get meaningful gains for the F20C engine fitted to the S2000 without going FI. I think I've seen an improvement in peak power to around 260 (from 240) with improvements throughout the rpm range (that's "torque" to you ) in some other people's cars through the fitting of air intakes, headers, exhausts, engine management and so on.

The thing that's given the best performance improvement is the fitting of sticky tyres - better braking, better cornering and thus higher speeds on the straights as well.

Instruction offers the best bang for buck, provided you're interested in more than childish drag racing.
