Like it or not,the VTEC is still one of the best normally aspirated 2L engines around, and very reliable.

Turbo conversions are all very well, but ensuring the internals and cooling are all up to the job, plus the cost of a suitable turbo, exhaust and mapping generally make it a bit of a non-starter compared with starting on a turbo engine from the outset.

As an example,I'd never have considered a supercharger or twin turbo kit for the A3 3.2 I used to own...too many areas to attend to,and even those who've done it concede the costs are often unreasonable.

Far better to leave it as it is,and enjoy it,plus it will retain resale value, whereas a converted one won't.

Sadly yes, If you take the higher end of the rev range into consideration only. Through the mid range on the i-Vtec you can see 25-30bhp increase with basic mods and a remap, enought to notice

I'd love to go turbo but it gets very expensive. That said there are a few in this country now that are pushing 400bhp on stock internals

It's a fairly straight forward conversion on the 3.2 quite a few people on the r32 are running super charged or turbo charged engines making around 400 bhp. Cost starts at around £6k for a decent one the good thing with the r32 or Audi quattro your easily able to get the power down especially compared to the punto/ctr listed above.

Your absolutely right about not getting your money back but you never will on any car especially modded ones!

Much as I said above....you'd be looking at a minimum of £4000 for a good kit including at least part of the exhaust system(manifold and downpipe),before you even got started on the rest of the build, and then you have cooling to consider.

Most turbo engines already have significant cooling margins built in,but a N/A conversion would have to build that in as well...and include an intercooler.

It does,as we've both said, get very expensive, but well done to those who have.

I know a few guys who've done exactly that, with either a twin turbo kit,or the supercharged equivalent, but the other hidden costs are suspension and brakes,as those on the R32/A3 3.2 are seriously not up to the demands of 400bhp.

As you say, traction is not a problem, and the gearbox is pretty tough, plus the diff controller can be modified also to improve handling and traction.

Those should do the job nicely...

This is what's on mine...

I've got a couple of pics but you can't see much as the calipers are black.

Has your car been supercharged or turbo'd?
