Right now is fine, it’s 1/2/3/4 years down the line that’s a concern. There’s already talk of fuel duty hikes for diesel in the next budget. Once step one has started, the residuals will start dropping. I’d lease a diesel in a heartbeat but I’ve left it too late. Quickest I can get one is 3 weeks and I can’t wait that long without a car.

I've had a diesel car for 10 years, but last year I changed to petrol, a fairly swift efficient 1.6t, mainly because of the dpfs on them. I do about 9k miles per year and mainly round town so I was concerned that the dpf would get clocked and cost me a small fortune to get fixed. I've refallen back in love with petrol. The small turbo engines are great.

Right now the majority of my driving is 70 on the dual carriageway. Another plus point for diesel.

I’ve gone from a 1.4 TDI Pumpenduse Seat Ibiza to a Cooper automatic 136 horsepower. Autobahn & City and My onboard says 5.8L/100Km . My Ibiza with the same driving was 5l/100Km
I pay less tax & insurance by €500 a year but no tax hikes for Diesel here yet, straight Diesel ban. That would kill me as City zone I drive through and couldn’t. Your talking a diversion of about 15-20km one way.
No brainer swap.

Isn’t 5.8km/l about 16mpg though? That’s awful

Our old Mini Cooper (54 plate 115hp 1.6l petrol) used to average 34.4mpg (12.1km/l) over the year we owned it back in 2011/12
