Best is a very subjective word.  It depends what features you need and whether you prefer the softer suspension in the standard model.
I had a 2016 A4 S-Line for a while and it was pretty good.

Sport models have a hard suspension if you get what I mean. Test drive one before buying.

My A4 was the same spec but I went for the Avant rather than the 4 door.
The car handles well but the gearbox had some weird issues and the entertainment system was very flakey.
Mine had a couple of software updates during the time I had it.  Maybe things have been improved recently.

Edit - I just remembered about the fuel tank and ad blue tank issues.
When I ordered mine there was an option to increase the fuel tank from the standard 40l to 54l and increase the standard ad blue tank from 6l to 10l (or something like that).
Make sure you get one with the larger fuel tank because 40l is pathetic for a car of this size.

@duffbeerdrinker   Thanks, never thought or looked at the tank size, looked through loads again and they are all 40L, the main one im interested in has a 54L tank though.

sorry, what do you mean @zeppelino

I think most people missed the option to increase the fuel tank to a normal size.  It was an FOC option so there was no reason not to tick the box for both tanks.

The 2016 2.0 TDI was either 150ps or 190ps.  Neither is particularly quick but the 190 is a little bit more powerful.  Easy way to tell the difference is the 190 has 2 exhausts and the 150 only has 1.

The Hold Assist feature is very useful with the S-Tronic gearbox.  It was not standard spec in 2016 so it's worth looking out for that too.

Aye, seems a bit silly not to increase the tank size, but maybe wasnt pushed at the time.

I have been mainly looking at the 187bhp A4's, i have been driving a 105bhp so im sure id notice a big difference?

Looking further the car i was interested in was the 148bhp version and although it had a few extras it didnt have parking sensors which id like to have.

Thanks again for the pointers on what to look out for.

Really depends on what car the 105bhp engine is in, and whether it’s diesel or petrol.

You can always go for a 150 and get it remapped to release more power.

Surprised at lack of parking sensors. I’d be looking for them too.
