Depends. I could on my 330d. In fact, you could barely tell the difference

It's a good old fashioned test though for a low power engine:
Park up.  
Engage handbrake.
Engage 4th gear.
Drive off...

1) you drive off: the hand brake is rubbish
2) The car stays still and you smell a horrible smell, clutch is rubbish.
3) Car stalls, both are good...

Hi everyone,

Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but as its about the same car i thought it would be beter here.

I was wondering if anyone would know if this particular focus has a timing belt or chain?

The engine is

1.8L Duratec HE PFI (125/130PS), petrol,  but , i dont know what i am looking for so cant tell either way.

Can anyone help ?

Good to see hand brakes and clutches and reverse gear we’re all good at least I’m assuming they are since you haven’t mentioned they aren’t

Well  does still crunch a bit in reverse if you don't wait a couple of seconds before engaging it .

Hand break us fine though.

Still not sure on the clutch, but it hasn't failed yet .....
