I have had similar problems since February (218D, first reg July 2016), and we did the Map Update last week, BECAUSE of the problems with slow calculation, restarting, terrible routing, delayed commands, wrong or not updated traffic information (RTTI). We switched off "dynamic routing" but it didn't make a difference. The map update made no difference.
My radio is not affected (yet), but I have experienced the shut-down and BMW Connected app logo on the screen this morning.

About to raise this issue with my dealer, but less hopeful for a fix now, reading the comments here.

Bob - you have not posted again. Can we assume that the problem is fixed now?
If BMW has updated the RTTI "over the air" then it either has not reached my car yet or it is not a "fix"...

No, I was just about to post an update.

It's just as bad as ever.  I think I'll try it one more time all over again with a fresh download from the website, and if that doesn't work I'll raise hell with Sytner.  They sold me the car; it's still under warranty; and I'll want it fixed or a refund.  It's not acceptable that a premium marque like BMW can't get the basics right.

I complained to Bmw and have received this advice:

Thanks for sending me your VIN.

This is one of the issues our customers are experiencing, in relation to the current RTTI performance issues.

I would suggest keeping the 'Retrieve Traffic Data' option off, and turning it back on every couple of days to see if any improvements to the performance area apparent.

The nature of the problem means we expect the performance to gradually improve over time, as opposed to an instantaneous improvement.

I hope this information is helpful, but if there's anything else I can do for you, please get back in touch.

Kind regards

Thanks, amulos.

It would be interesting to know exactly what kind of problem it could be to give gradual improvement.

The latest from me is that I took it down to Sytner's the other day, and let their technical guy do all the things to it which I had already done; to no avail, of course, but it stepped their involvement up a notch.  The next step is that I'll take it in and leave for them to do a full reset & update.

From what you and others are saying I doubt this will fix anything, and to be honest it's not a huge problem now I'm getting used to it. There's no way I'm going to turn the traffic info off, though. And it does look as though it's very gradually coming under control.  What I don't understand is why this coincided exactly with my upgrading the maps, when BMW are implying there's no connection.

They're lending me a courtesy car, so it'll give me the chance to assess the new X3.

Mine has seen intermittent improvements , sometimes its quick at calculating the route and sometimes very slow over 1 minute to do so .

Ive had 2018-1 maps since they came out from bmw (dec 2017 i think) but didn’t subscribe to connected drive then so only had tmc traffic, which didn’t impact upon the. Nav speed etc.

I had unrelated issues with the idrive, so mid march bmw reprogrammed it with the newest software version for the car, it was on NBT_A and now NBT_L and the phone and media software version went from 001.021.015 to 003.003.001. And since then the unit remained responsive with no issue (it did resolve the issue why it went in) its only since i subscribed to connected drive services for the rtti traffic has the unit has the issues about taking too long to calculate the route or is unresponsive- so ive definetely  put this down to rtti

It appears to be related to the time of day- rush hour definetly takes longer to calculate- maybe its due to the amount of data it has to process  as there is more traffic?

There are times however that the unit is slow to unresponsive with the nav commands. For example the route is calculated but you cant cancel it or you cant turn traffic off.

Guess we will have to wait and see! Just hope it improves quickly!

OK, thanks.

As per my post on TMC above, is it available on BMW, as you imply?  If I simply turn RTTI off, will I get TMC?  As I say, it was fine on my XF, and I'd happily stick with it.  Are the displays, of delays for example, any different?

Thanks.

As I appear to be hounding the bmw social media team- a further update from them:

There is currently a group-wide issue with the RTTI service, this is currently with the ConnectedDrive team in BMW AG (Germany) They’re working as quickly as possible to resolve the issue, from my understanding customer’s RTTI are being effected due to the 2018 updates being applied to our vehicles. I’ve been informed once a fix has been found this will automatically be implemented, and no customer action will be needed.

Once the issue has been resolved, we’ll be happy to extend your RTTI service for the time the service has been compromised.

Apologies for any inconvenience caused. If there's anything else I can help with in the meantime, please get back in touch.

Kind regards

Thanks, amulos.

That explains at last why it only started when I upgraded to the 2018-1 maps: it is related.

I'm unhappy about paying for RTTI at all; I'm certainly not going to pay for the months it's causing trouble.

I'll also believe "automatically implemented" when I see it.  It depends where the glitch is, but it feels to me like a map update would be required.
