Some decent enough action last night, if one sided.
Groves looked very good, although Johnson shouldn't have come out of retirement and was so far from his old self, didn't throw much at all. Having said that it was probably a good warm up for Groves, his power I think is developing nicely(Glen is as tough as old boots still!) and he did well with trying for the KO, but also when realizing it wasn't happening stepping back and picking the points again. I think his movement is looking more relaxed and natural now too, he has looked a bit awkward and twitchy in the past. Personally I think that Groves has developed more than DeGale since their last outing and think a rematch between the two would see DeGale in all sorts of trouble. Hopefully a better opponent next time out.
Khan also looked very good, much tighter work in general and you can see a difference from his past couple of performances. At the same time, Molina looked so small in there(remember he was coming up from lightweight) and it was clear he didn't have the power to trouble Khan even when he did land cleanly. In that regard a sensible comeback fight for Khan, but he mustn't let himself get cocky after that as I still think against a power puncher he could get himself in hot water again. Certainly shouldn't be considering moving up to Welterweight any time soon IMO.
BJS had a tougher test that I expected, probably gained alot from that experience though, Blackwell was tough and had to admire his persistent pressure. Clear win for Billy Joe though, didn't see it as close as a couple of the judges. |
