One knuckle is considered a weak grip. Two, to two and a half  'neutral', three or more strong. But the right hand is important as well. If you have one knuckle on the left hand and the grip is to much in the palm or 'under' on the right hand. Then the head of the club will always close on takeaway - well closed or shut at the top and obviously at impact. Unless some weird compensation is made at impact with the arms hands and legs the ball will hook. Probably a pretty low hook too.

Are you standing parallel to the target ?, a quick way to check and when i used to practice years ago. Instead if putting a club on the ground along the feet to target - is to put the club on/along the thighs to see where you are aiming. If you are standing even slightly closed it will throw the shoulders around/over the ball at impact even more. And combined with the grip the ball will go left 95% of the time

I know what you mean as I've a thally hut three quality shots with the proper grip before but my issue is I can't get comfortable as I don't like my thumbs pointing down its why I play baseball grip as the thumbs are wrapped round. Why I use the left hand at the top and the right hand at the bottom with righthanded swing is beyond me. Thing is consistancy is a lot better now but still iffy and just recently I've been hitting some peach beauty shots but I lift too early half the time and top it. If I can get the head to stay still I'm actually a good solid player.

That's exactly how I used to grip the club until a couple of months ago. I agree it feels totally alien and wrong when you change. I tried 3 times to change before and gave up as I just couldn't do it and then on the 4th attempt I decided to stick with it for longer and finally it became the norm

I'm going to give my grip another year if it doesn't work too well ill adjust and change. The improvement I've made this year would be in vain otherwise

Well I played yesterday and unfortunately I'm STILL Hooking the Driver. I will be back on the Course tomorrow trying all I can think off to sort it out.

I had a miserable session at the driving range on Monday. Only started hitting the ball something like right after 40 or 50 balls I then realised I was gripping too tightly and loosened my grip and things started getting better.

I went on Tuesday not expecting much at all but had probably my best session yet You watch, the next one will be back to poor again

That's the thing with golf though its all literally millimeters and that's the difference between a wonderful straight drive and an awful hook onto another hole or the hazards.

That being said I virtually always hit smoothly at the range and have serious issues on a course but I feel that's due to the lie never being as good on a course as it is on the range hence the approach taken is slightly different to correspond to the shot you have.

Played this morning again and the good news is that the Driver is getting better. Still the odd Hook but a few half-decent drives. Looking forward to Saturday now.

I'm going range this Saturday cannot play course yet as its still flooded!
But perfect time to try the correct grip I've looked at a swing video on YouTube from a coach to try as a beginner so I will look at trying to replicate and go from there
