Vikram Seth's magnum opus Suitable Boy would rank probably amongst the all time great sagas like War and Peace, Anna Karenina BUT the shabby picturisation over here kills the story.
I had read the story way back (probably 20-25 years back) and was spell bowled by the expanse of coverage. The sheer range of cultures (UP Hindu , Bengal, Muslim) covered was a study in history. This story deserved a big probably 6-7 season soap with fine detailing but the way Ms Nair has rushed through the story , it looks like I am reading the book via Blinkst.
The only two stars I can give are for
1) the great supporting actors on the show starting from Ram Kapoor, Ranvir Shorey, Vijay Raaj, Rasika Duggal etc. One grouse for Lata's mom , maybe my subconscious mind was expecting Kirron Kher
2) the sets,props, art direction is top notch.
See it if you want to finish this magnum opus in quick time but then this saga is like fine wine.It needs to be inhaled, taken in , tasted and savoured in fullness of time.
