They had everything in place. Character design was deeply planned out. Visuals and anime were outstanding. The story was well visualized. This production should have been on par if not surpassing Japanese and Korean anime. What went wrong was embarrassingly obvious. The same mistake was made that all other North American productions make. They didn't consider the needs of the audience. There was a lot of story here. The first season should have been twelve episodes and not eight. In spite of the obvious work put into the character's backstories, it was mostly ignored, delivering mere caricatures lacking any depth and development. Even teens would find the story shallow. In spite of the amazing backgrounds, shading and colour schemes, the characters were drawn like the ones you would see in a preschooler's cartoon. However, having dinosaurs eating people doesn't quite fit the demographic. Worse, it jarred against the exquisite backgrounds and the dinosaurs lifelike imaging. Had the target audience been adults, greater drama would have been added to the mix, fleshing out a twelve episode season and would have catered to a broader audience. Instead we got cardboard, lots of action but lacking in story. In short, there wasn't a target audience. Instead, what was delivered was a mediocre North American offering that doesn't compete with foreign markets. I binge watched the whole season in one sitting, hoping for better! Had the extra effort been put in place, this could have been a world class offering. Instead, we received the mild pap on that North American audiences expect. It's so sad this potential was lost. Six stars was the best I could offer. It should have been a ten.
