I always thought this movie was more about Judas than Jesus, and I just saw the commentary on the DVD by Tim Rice saying his initial inspiration for the story was seeing Jesus through Judas' eyes. When they confront each other at the last supper you understand that they are both following the only path they can, and that in the end they both are making the ultimate sacrifice. Without Judas' "betrayal", Jesus' path would not have lead him to be the figure he is today. Let me add I am not a Christian but I have watched this movie each spring for the last 15 years. I love the music and the lyrics are perfect. My favorite line is Jesus in the garden of Gesthemane bitching at God - "Far too keen on where and how, but not so hot on why"
