After having watched "Nightstalker" the night before, I was wary about seeing "Dahmer." From past experience, I had come to the conclusion that movies about serial killers are for the most part badly done and inaccurate. However, "Dahmer" was a breath of fresh air.
Let me start off by applauding Jeremy Renner's portrayal of Jeffrey Dahmer. He did an amazing job. He had everything down, from the way he walked and talked, to the way he held his cigarette. His work in this movie is absolutely fantastic.
Next I should note that those of you seeking a blood-and-gore-slasher will in fact be disappointed. In my mind, this is another high point to this movie. There were only two scenes involving blood, and these were certainly not explicit gore. "Dahmer" is a journey into the mind of Jeffrey Dahmer, one of the most charismatic and polite serial killers known. Only two of his victims were shown being killed, although he actually killed many more. For those of you seeking a psychological glance into the mind of a killer, you will be greatly satisfied.
The cinematography in this film is superb. Fabulous camera angles and lighting make for great esthetic appeal. Some of the shots in this film are truly amazing.
Although a few minor facts were altered in "Dahmer", we must remember that it was not meant to be a documentary. I found that with a few exceptions, it stuck to the facts.
As I already mentioned, I was wary about watching "Dahmer" for the first time. I am truly glad that I did watch it. It is by far the best serial killer movie I have ever seen, and one of the greatest movies I have seen period. I most definitely recommend "Dahmer".
