It is a good drive from GC to Vegas we stopped off at hoover dam on the way, well worth a stop to see it.
Fuel is pretty cheap in the US around 70c per litre iirc

I'm not sure exactly, we had a sedan sized car with 2 people so apples to oranges. Diesel isn't the thing there either!
I do remember it was 280 miles each way, and petrol was $3 per gallon (ish). So will depend on your cars mileage of course.
This is the Indian reservation:
Grand Canyon West, Grand Canyon | Home
Or the 'West Rim'
The South Rim is the National Park, stick them both in Google maps and it will give you an idea of the difference, geographically.
Do a search for west rim vs South rim to get some information on both, and the pros and cons.
Yes of course a chopper will give incredible views, vs on the ground. But the views on the ground give you more time to appreciate it.
Edit- it can't be overestimated the first time you see the Grand Canyon. It's worth the time to spend just trying to comprehend the thing.
For me, I decided I wanted to explore the national park on foot a little, and was lucky enough to have a reservation at a hotel on the rim overnight. Downside is time of course, but for me it was time well spent.
But, bloody hell, I want to go to Vegas now!!

Any recommendations on hotels at the rim. We are going before we head to Vegas and plan on doing a night at the South rim.

If you have the cash stay at El Tovar, we stayed at the Bright Angel Lodge. They are cabins, the one we had was with shared bathrooms and it was great, very clean.
£50 to stay 20 metres from the edge of the rim, easy access for sunrise - awesome

Looking to go vegas in June, looking on Expedia the prices look good, but how safe is it to book online.

Missus and I contemplating going to vegas in April, it would only be for 5 days. its for a mates (who lives in the US) 40th birthday. Hotel at the Wynn would be free.
Ive been a couple of times but the wife has never been, the number of days is making me think its not really worth it, but im still tempted.
Where / who would be the best price for flights?

5 days in Vegas - definitely worth it.
Depends who you want to fly with. -Internet is where I book all my flights.
