Ok il just come out and say it I spose Im tight with money.now I know that tipping is not a city in China blah blah blah but I'm a bit worried about how much should I be tipping and is there anything out there that you don't have to tip for.i mean not wanting to insult people over there with what I tip but we are not rich and have saved for this holiday for a long time.
Any basic rules?
10%-15% (usually 15% for meals) for your server
A couple of dollars for the bell-boy, the same for a bar-tender per drink or 15% of a tab
A few dollars for a cab-driver usually 10%

i am all for tipping where necessary, but sod that.

HOW TO TIP AT AMERICAN HOTELS
The American Hotel & Lodging Association published a gratuity guide which offers the following advice for guests:
Housekeeping staff: Leave a tip of $1 to $5 in a marked envelope or with a note.
Concierge: Tip $5 to $10 depending on the service provided.
Hotel shuttle driver: Give $1 to $2 or $4 to $5 per party.
Valet/parking attendant: Hand over a tip of $1 to $5 when the car is delivered.
Bell staff/porters: $1-$5 per bag, especially if the luggage is heavy or the staff member explains the room and its features.
Door staff: Tip $1-$2 if they hail a cab.
Delivery of special items (an extra blanket, for example): $2 for one item, $1 for more
Room service: If there is no service charge, tip 15 to 20 per cent.
Restaurant: Leave a tip amounting to 15 per cent of the total bill or 20 per cent for exceptional service.
Bartender: 15 to 20 per cent of the tab.

My booking for 5 nights in the Luxor is about £280. But when I check in they will add 12% tax and $28 per night resort fee.
