Interesting, what made you change and which lenses do you use with it? I did love the camera when I had it, but I preferred the D750. However, the Nikon is out of my price range now really and ideally I want something slightly more compact

i wanted a new camera/upgrade and nikon dont have anything that really ticks my boxes. A semi big deciding factor, was a very mate of mine works for Olympus and gets 30% discount. There are various features of the olympus that i love, some im not so keen on and some i will get used to. also the weight.... i shoot a fair bit of motorsport and carrying the D300 and 70-200 at 2.5kg all day soon takes its toll. The em5 and equivalent lens weighs in at less than 1.5kg so thats BIG.

Currently only got the 12-40mm but i will get the 40-150 soon enough

Will be interested to see your motorsport shots with the EM5-II, I'm sure they'll be the usual amazing standard. Any reason you chose the EM5-II over the EM1-II? Cost?

stonedcamel Publish time 2-12-2019 07:03:40

cost came into it and the extra features, i couldnt justify...

thanks, we shall see by the latest july time for BTCC.... i used to push the nikon to its limits for exposure etc so i will see, hopefully the same or easier

nikon gear is up for sale too

Do you manually focus for sports? You can’t push Olympus files that much without introducing noise tbh.

Let me know if you want to borrow a couple of telezooms to try out first

Jim

the olympus is a few miles better than the old girl for noise. Depends on how or where im shooting and what crazy image im after or buildings or people im shooting through haha

Thanks Jim, already sorted

Is the D300 that bad with noise then? data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7 Not that the Olly is bad, far from it data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7

OK, for those pixel peepers this is some of the fuji artefacting that you can get with landscapes. If you look from about 9.15 you can see the difference in detail, but when he zooms to 2:1 you can start to see the so called 'worms'. Now myself and others have been plagued by these artefacts, and not had to zoom into 2:1 to see them (in fact I never go past 1:1). The worms are introduced by sharpening and by the way that the software processes the X-Trans Fuji files. There are ways to minimise the worms such as use the detail slider rather than the sharpening slider, but I never found that I could achieve the same fine detail as other cameras. For landscapes rocks and green foliage bring out the artefacts the worst, and living in Derbyshire that caused a bit of a problem for me data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7

Now I know everyone isn't as anal and as much of a pixel peeper as myself, and for most people things like this really don't matter, but being as it's been discussed I thought I may as well share this example that I stumbled across data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7
