Who ridiculed it?
Lenovo haven't given up, they are working in partnership with Oculus.

But I asked if Lenovo had given up on WMR. I didn’t mention Oculus.

Rift S is absolutely the best place to start with PC VR these days... Unless you have a very wide or very narrow face.
If you try it and like it (enough), the Rift S will likely hold its value well and get a good price second hand which can be put toward to best of the best but premium Index.Reckon Rift X will be fine for most though.

Yep.
Also factor in that Rift S is a bit less hardware hungry and maybe more likely to work with existing PCs.
So if you get one, you like it but you want better tracking, better quality visuals and audio, then the outlay required for Index and supporting hardware is less of a gamble.

i had my IPD checked last week (I measured it myself at 70 but wanted a pro to confirm)
1 eye is 33 the other is 35, so whilst rift S may work for me it would surely not be optimal.
I will never knock the rift S, i think it is a fab product that hits the spot and will likely do more for PC VR than any of the other headsets out there..... but right now it isnt for me.
