Toshiba Regza 3030 digital channels fault
Hi,I bought a REGZA 42" 3030 around 14 months ago which has worked perfectly until yesterday.
When I switch the TV on, 'DIGITAL' appears at the top left of the screen for about 5 secs then screen goes grey.
If I attempt to access the Digital Setup Menu it appears for about 1 second and then disappears.
All analogue channels OK including the Analogue Menu.
DVD Recorder (via external ip 2) also OK including Digital Freeview Channels.
Help please. Could this problem have been caused by a Toshiba Software Update while the TV was in standby? Any luck with your Toshiba ?- discovered mine has just done the same today Mar 14 09 .
Hi,
Not as yet, but have read a post on this site from somebody who had the same symptoms and which turned out to be a faulty digital tuner. Thanks, I will have a search for any info and maybe strip the tv down to see how easy it is to change the tuner board Yes, me too. I am an ex Dell Field Service Engineer so changing the part shouldn't be too difficult. Perhaps the hard bit is getting the back off and sourcing the replacement part. I am going to ring Toshiba Support on Monday to see if they come up with any ideas. Still have a suspicion that they have downloaded a software upgrade that has failed. Anyway let me know how you get on, any info would be much appreciated.
Best regards
John Not solved it yet but it seems that it may well be a firmware/software problem. See how to mend it .com - built in freeview not working on toshiba tv?
I spoke to an engineer locally who then contacted toshiba who more or less confirmed that it probably just needs a software upgrade - but they were not offering it free via him so I have been on thephone to customer services on 0844 8560730 for 30 minutes so far waiting - just spoke to a real person - arranged a free repair visit - presumably only if it really is just a software/firmare upgrade - did not even have to ask about it being free even though it is 20 months old.
Will let you know how it goes Thanks. Sounds hopeful. I did suspect that it was possibly a firmware/software problem. In my case I switched off the TV on Thursday night and left it in Standby. Reading the User Manual, it says that Software Updates can take place when the unit is in Standby. I think this Update took place, overnight, but was corrupt in some way.
I have gone to the expense of buying a Service Manual for the 'beast'. It needs a special Tosh reader (Zeus) which I am having a problem configuring, I can read text but unable to see diagrams which isn't much help. Will get in touch with the supplier to get it sorted.
Anyway, many thanks again. Please let me know how you get on.
Best regards
John (Howard58) TV picked up today - local agent said they had to do it at their workshop - toshiba have a service bulletin out about it and the agent said they have at least one more to do in the shop. Thanks 'marrtroon'
Suprised that they had to take your T.V. away, but at least it should be fixed.
I rang Toshiba yesterday who gave me a reference number for free repair and am waiting for a call from their service agent to arrange a visit.
Good luck
John (howard58) Engineer arrived this afternoon. Confirmed that software download had failed. Upgraded software/firmware. Took 10mins. Digital channels and menus restored.
