Finally got round to calling the TV repair shop - waiting parts!
They had ordered a board from Toshiba they say they need for the upgrade -- but Toshiba have no stock so they have to get it somewhere else.
Not sure I believe them but even if I do they should have said before carting the TV off - the only thing that makes me not extremely irritated is that my spare 32 inch LCD is working fine. If that goes its on to thePC's digital sticks and then the old 14 inch CRT in the loft.

Hi all,
I have extacly problem, all other input is working , just DTV not working, blank black screen , cannt access Menu or Setup.
I had tried ringing Toshiba customer services 0844 8560730 option 3 , 3 times today, waiting 40mins each time, still no human answering the call, keep getting "Sorry all our agent is busy"
I tried option 2, Technical Support, said they never heard of any issue of this kind before, & refused to help. data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7

Hi Khaiy,
Persevere with option 3, Customer Services. Option 2, Technical Support were no help at all.
Customer Services arranged for an engineer to call, who upgraded the firmware which fixed the problem in 10 mins, free of charge although 3 months outside warranty. He explained that sometimes downloaded software/firmware upgrade (via aerial) sometimes fails.
You might want them to look at my Toshiba fault ref: 1-633625736
Hope this helps and good luck.

khaiy-
can't add any more to the thread really - I am nearly certain there is an internal toshiba bulletin about this problem - a failed firmware upgrade.
It took me over 30 minutes to get through to customer services who instantly arranged a free repair - for most people this is a 10 minute visit from an engineer with a laptop - here in the wilderness of central Scotland my tv was picked up and has not been returned after 2 weeks!data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7

Appreciate your help.
I will try again tomorrow, so hard to get thru the customer services, i had to turn on my speakerphone while waiting someone to answer, will keep everyone update.
It seem like if Toshiba March09 auto update failed will crash everyone tele, i am thinking is there any option to block auto update in future

Hi khaiy,
Once you get you TV fixed. There is an option to turn off automatic updates when in Standby in one of the menus. I've turned mine OFF so that I don't suffer the same problem again.

Hi all,
Finally got my DTV working agian now, below as my experience.
I had successed contact Toshiba customer services on last Friday. On the phone, they request my model no, serial no. , purchasing date & retails where i bought from.
Ater that provide me a call reference number, and told me they will forward my details to Birmingham Specialised Services (telephone number 0121 789 9991) ,which will contact me to arrange appointment.
On Monday recieved call from BSS, arrange appointment for engineer to visit on Wednesday 08/04/09 within 9am-5pm.
Wednesday around 2:30pm,2 Engineers turned up to inspect the tv, confirmed software issued, but being told Toshiba only issued them with 1 PCMCIA, & is with another engineer now, so have to make another appointment coming back tomorrow.
Today 09/04/09 same engineer turn up around 10am , insert the card at the back of CAM slot, software updating take about 5mins, DTV & Menu is working again.Signed the job sheet stated "Toshiba agree to pay for any labour , parts & call out cost", so everything is free.Engineer also help turn off the auto update.
Thanks for everyone help & info !

out of interest
- is the fw upgrade possible other than through digital terrestial?
I may be picking up one second hand that's only been used for sky hd -- so no DTT signal so likely no updates in over a year...

Was in a panic last night when my Regza C3030 did exactly the same. It was only 17 months old and I thought it was knackered (is it too cynical to note all the dates are just outside the manufacturers' warranty!). I'll now try the Toshiba Customer Services. Hail to the AV forum. data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7
