There's rumours samsung might not even bothered with the quantum dot filter and move straight to the self emitting quantum display. Which makes sense

I don't really care too much about the actual TVs this year - I don't think we're going to see much change in retail. And I certainly couldn't give a fig about 8k - we barely have any broadcast 4k (streaming services are doing better, but still not enough).
I'm more interested in tech maturity for some of the stuff mentioned above, and when I can get my hands on it.
What I am interested in is HDMI 2.1, specifically eARC. If someone gives me an OLED that will do full HD audio via ARC and an Atmos soundbar to match (I'm looking at you, Sennheiser Ambeo soundbar), then I might upgrade again.

No chance. After what I have read and that video, I will fall from my chair.
They may show a prototype but self emitting is not ready. Even mini led have challenges that guy explained in his super long video...
Overall, I will really be happy with mini led and improvement in algorithm and color gamut...plus a good panel free of problems. Too much to ask ?

I meant 4K TV, not 8K. We don't want 8K sets that TV companies are going to push as a new technology for buyers to upgrade, as there is nothing in 8K at the moment. There is a lack of new tech, all we hear and see in CES every year as new 'possible' tec but never implemented.
So it's business as usual and TV companies no doubt will tempt buyers with 8K sets. OLEDs will soldier on with 5 or 10 percent extra brightness. On LCD front, hope to see new tech implemented but who knows, can't wait for CES to begin, however, some TV manufacturersmight delay announcing their new sets after Jan 2019, just like last year.

I am hoping they will show most of the range and especially the prototypes. but hdmi 2.1 not available before March 19 so sept will see all the big innovations with hdmi 2.1
I am hoping that they release TVs with hdmi 2.1 ready...so far, only Samsung could be future proof enough
