@GadgetObsessed (and anyone who has a good fald), keen to know your take on this especially as you own the beautiful zd9.
You were with me when q9 was put out against the oled. Potential is enormous if mini led can sort the fald shortfalls in dark scenes...and refine it for bright (glorious hdr and Colors there with Q9fn)
Can someone explain why thousands of mini led end up being just over 1000 zones. Is it like they group them ? Don’t understand this part.

Well the HDMI 2.1 will not be an issue in 2020, as we should see the 1st stages of this being introduced in 2019. So any unit launch should be part incorporatingHDMI 2.1., if not full cover.
Will DV & HDR10be any different on mini / micro led ? I know Samsung use HDR10but if DV takes of they will surely have to jump on the band wagon ?

Mini and micro led should impact the picture via better control of zones and reduced blooming...
Micro led is ultimate (and not refined yet) but mini led should work its magic...
Hdmi 2.1 will not appear before end of 2019 year at best as chip is ready just end of q1 2019...
Frankly, I am tired of dv versus hdr10battle...give us hdr10 and a tv with high brightness and good tone mapping...that will do...

As an owner of the Q9FN and now Q900R the biggest weakness it has is the massive amount of brightness is impacted by the lack of zones. Especially when it comes to a black screen with bright highlights mixed in. It dims those bright highlights to a level even less than an OLED to control blooming. This wouldn't be needed if they had thousands and thousands of mini LED zones but its just the most they can do at the moment. I know a lot think Micro LED is the future but I also feel Mini LED has its place as if you can get enough zones in to the point where you have no blooming then it can be just as good. Apparently the costs are too great at the moment though.

If you read one of the articles, oncost for mini led is just 100 dollars versus a 600 lcd fald. To go micro led, 1200 dollars versus 1000 for oled (all 65)
It is already here and the Innolux mini led 65 inch tv had thousands of mini led and 1250 zones plus 1million:1 contrast...
Like you said, mini led is just enough with a good processing...Samsung latest is the proof...
When it comes, and it will come, then everyone will see what a fald is tout capable to do with qantum on top...in dark and bright scenes equally. Current set are like a Ferrari with standard wheels, can’t handle the horses !!!

I'm just as excited for MiniLED as MicroLED, considering it'll be in televisions soon and it should be "good enough". I mean, at what point does the human visual system become the bottleneck for perceived contrast? How many thousands of zones before contrast performance becomes indistinguishable from pixel level control?

Thanks for your thoughts trefdash, but my personal view is it will be a sad day these developments in technology stop.
You are correct to a point and it gets to a level where as individuals we have to be satisfied, and live within our budget and that's the time to stop. As you say we only see so much, so why keep going..but we have not reached that level yet.
In the last ten years we have had Plasma, Oled, and now soon micro / mini led. I think the difference is a big jump but for the better.
One day the technology will reach a point where looking at your tv will be like looking out the window, that's the goal. Ok it will be a bloody big tv, but it will go that way in years to come.

Ok Goldorak that's it, I have now decided it's time to do some serious saving..
Wow that looks bloody impressive, just a shame the commentary is not in English.
That is the next level and it looks so real and trefdash could be right, is it possible to better that image ?

These are good companies but with average processing. You want that on a Sony Samsung pana LG.
Micro led is far away but mini led can come 2019/20 easy...
Like @Matson knows too well, mini led is more than enough alongside processing to improve current q9 and zf9..don’t change anything, just add mini led (with enough zones) and latest processors.
In this video, you also see Innolux mega drive (mini led 4k panel)...ignore 16k data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7
