Hopefully, they will all hold their breaths for one hour. But not between 1.00am and 2.00 am on Sunday morning.

Should solve all our problems at a single stroke !!!

Ah well, at least there will be less &*!!%*$ talked for a short, merciful, hour.

I think it is mainly a public awareness thing, rather than a practical proposition to reduce emissions. An opportunity to discuss the impact our lifestyles have on the environment, and how it will impact future generations.

(ps. it is also interesting to reflect that for most of the population, lights out is the norm. It is mainly the brightly lit west that is doing most damage to the environment, and the darker continents that will suffer the most from climate change.)

NeilH Publish time 26-11-2019 03:59:12

You didn't bother then?

Stephen Wilde Publish time 26-11-2019 03:59:13

Agreed, it's an awareness issue.

We can still argue over it's relevance and appropriateness. though.

If it were about resource preservation and pollution reduction then I'd be wholeheartedly in favour. It's just that linking it to CO2 misses the point entirely as far as I am concerned.

Linking it to climate change is likely to be off putting and counterproductive as far as most of the global population is concerned (and in my humble opinion, dishonest).

The fact is that the proponents of this exercise think they are going to get more results linking it to a speculative climate scare than linking it to the real indisputable problems of population and per capita resource consumption levels.

Means never were and never will be justified by ends. Dishonesty over either inevitably discredits what would otherwise be a right and virtuous exercise and leads to inappropriate or ineffective counter measures.

MikeTV Publish time 26-11-2019 03:59:14

What makes you think that? Of course, I did it. And the more that do, the greater the awareness.

I'm lovin' your work.

MikeTV Publish time 26-11-2019 03:59:16

We'll just have to agree to differ on that stuff.

I didn't know that about Jonny, until you mentioned it. But if his main objections are towards anti-nuclear environmentalists, he may have a point. I'm not sure where I stand on the nuclear power issue. It is certainly an interesting debate.
