According to her, it's the reason she called the election in the first place. As the result actually reduced her mandate, she needs to bow out whilst she still has some dignity. I don't see that position improving with her proposed deal with the devil.
The current government are done after this debacle, they just haven't realised it yet.

The PM is a figurehead and has the ability and power to direct according to the wishes of the Party Executive and the policies in the manifesto.
Like any other CEO if targets are not met and many mistakes are made by the PM then the executive board members (Party bosses) can oust the PM.
