Kinnock won seats.

1987 229 seats.

1992 271 seats.

A gain of 42 which is more than Corbyn won.

There was its called, 'Beginning of the end of the Labour Party? ' thread, mainly concentrated on Corbyn and Abbott, who incidentally both outperformed the confident predictions and exemplifies why May is cobbling together a coalition of sorts. It's good that inspiration is to still look back on a bygone era, lessons have not been learned.

More worryingly May appears tobe finding that magic money tree; no doubt the first seedlings will sprout in Northern Ireland then spread. The ideology of Austerity is dead and even if its fossilised remains are uncovered in the not so distant future by the political creationists, its existence will be denied.

Given her appalling strategy during the election campaign, I think May should step down. The attacks on Corbyn and Abbott were quite disgusting particularly with regards to the latter as she was suffering the effects of type 2 diabetes hence the so called car crash interviews. The sort if negative campaigning we witnessed was more in tune with American politics and I am glad it backfired on her

Abbott, I nickname her Lightening rod. Still it does go way to far, its evident being a woman and black will swarm a negative response. Still snide Tories have not learned; play the policy not the individual.

May will stay, until the inevitable soft Brexit is concluded then Duncan Smith and old pal Farage will scream foul play and put the boot in. Hammond will get some negative as from today, it’s enjoyable to a degree watching Conservative party wallow in the mire and Osborne is not being austere with that schadenfreude!

I've got type 2 diabetes. When I was first diagnosed there was an adjustment period. But it didn't impact my work.

Abbott was diagnosed two years ago. I find it hard to believe this is the excuse they are using.

well you are not her and neither is anyone else. W e can only imagine why she had that bad experience but it does not excuse the appalling behaviour either by the media or Tory campaigners
