How did it come about that Israel gained control of the Golan heights?
Israel offered the "West Bank" back to the country that lost it when it went to war, Jordan (who threw all Jews out of Jerusalem), they declined.

There is a clear divide between who different people rate and place different nations and groups on a scale of good/bad or most ethical/least ethical.
I think we can all agree for the most part that no country or group is above reproach nor hasn't done things historically that are unethical and abhorrent.
Scale Ethical(0) ---50/50(5)--- Unethical(10)
Personally, I place the Northern European nations as considerably closer to ethical than unethical (2 - 3) based on their contemporary behaviours.
The US (4) I would place less close to ethical than the Northern Europeans, and Russia(7) I would place on the unethical side of the scale.
Israel(5 - 6) I would place around the middle to slightly more unethical than ethical.
The Palestinians I would place at (8 - 9).

Its interesting that you put the US at 4 and Russia at 7.

I haven’t defended the actions of the Palestinians but I have questioned the response from Israel (as have many other countries including the U.K.)

The Golan should always be Israel.

Exactly they do more damage to their own, totally agree. So they should smarten up and stop poking the leopard and get on with their lives. The world agreed 70 years ago, to allow this settlement. And any sovereign nation is allowed to choose its capital. Further more successive US presidents have promised this, yet none actually delivered. I’m no fan of trump at all, he is way too like Corbyn for my liking, however you can not say he doesn’t deliver on the promises.
LOL the joke is even starting to gain traction that he is delivering more promises than he ever made data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7

Why?
Genuine question as I have no historical knowledge of its’ provenance.

And has been questioned many a time before when ever they defend themselves. Exactly the same as having to ensure the constant bullying in school, yet when you retaliate the teachers pay attention and the bully cries wolf. The Palestenians know exactly what they are provoking. And only once have to strike lucky.

I find forums odd when defending/attacking certain governments or regimes. Spanish police completely over the top in their quelling of the Catalans, yet some of the same people think the IDF are perfectly fine to fire live ammunition into a crowd with unarmed civilians.
I guess some feel a need to defend or attack based upon their own bias, rather than look at things objectively. It doesn't matter the provocation, this was unnecessary and plays right into Hamas' hands.

I’m not denying at all that people are getting killed. I find it sad that it had to come to that. And having been in a defence force myself I can’t imagine what must be going through the poor soldiers minds who have to defend their country from these people trying to shield themselves with women and children. It’s the most horrible thing to continue having to do that generation after generation.
