How about blaming the current Labour MP, elected last week? Must be their fault surely, even though the previous MPs were all Tory too.
GLC was running London from 1965 to 1986. It was Labour in 1973 to 1977 and again from 1981. Then GLA.
Really? You seem to be going out of your way to prove Labour are somehow to blame for this.
Even if the GLC had actually approved the plans and construction of the tower, which they didn't, that was done at a time when the Conservatives were running the GLC (1970). The fact is though it was RBKC who approved the plans and signed off the building, oversaw and approved it's renovation, all the while under Conservative control.
So you think that public landlords are going to follow drastically different regulations? Is there some mystical different regulations for property rented by poor people as per claims on social media?
So who would have been involved with the specifics at project level? Somebody approved this and I'm guessing it would not have been a politician. Who signed off the work as safe?
Somehow the GLC in the 1970s and 1980s was responsible for the cladding which was added last year.

There was an old bearded guy who was rapidly on the telly going out of his way trying to blame everything on the Conservatives.
The post was, if you like, a response to him. It's all in the same post. I'm not involved in who does what in London but my first thought was I don't think it's as simple as that.
There will be an inquiry. Given time it will figure out who is to blame and I bet nothing will happen to them.
Housing is part of the GLC/GLA job. Social media is busy accusing both sides.
I'm not saying anything about the regulations for public owned buildings. It was merely a response to those trying to blame the tories for blocking a bill that wouldn't apply to Grenfell tower anyway.
As for who would approve the cladding? It could be anywhere within the chain, client, architect, main contractor, sub contractors etc. Ultimately it would rest on who makes the decision on that part of the specification. The work would have been signed off by a state approved building inspector, the responsibility ultimately lying with the council.

Labour proposed amendments which would require landlords to make their homes safe and it for human habitation.The Tories rejected them. 72 of those who did are landlords themselves.
