That got me thinking. I know some guitarists use a Roland JC120 Jazz Chorus for cleans. James Hetfield one of the most obvious. A bit more research and apparantly BB King, Dimebag Darrell and Ty Tabor (kings x and fantastic guitarist) have all used solid state. So some pretty good guitarists.

Well I knew there must be some, but I couldn't have named them like my favourite guitarists and their associated Marshalls, AC30s etc. Of course we usually only see them standing on stage, not what they may use in the studio when recording or practicing. I'm led to believe Slash uses an SL5!

Very true, think I paid around £60 for mine and got most of it back when I sold it, loved it at the time, but bit too much messing around to sort the settings, having to dual in each knob to exactly the right place, much easier to just download one and put or straight in data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7
My comment was more aimed at SS tech coming on quite a bit since the Vypyrs first came out and a great price even new.
It's great isn't it, makes the choice of amp so much harder although the DT25s seem to have all bases covered. Speaking of which I gather the firmware update allow you to select 8 amps rather than 4.
The Blackstar IDs sounds great, reminds me of the Yamaha THR. I can still hear a bit of solid state tone as it sounds a bit too neat/precise. Not a bad thing as it also sound very clean. Going to have to try one in person to see what it's really like, surprised how little press these get.

I haven't applied the firmware update - actually, I can't because I don't have a MIDI - USB adapter.I'm not too worried about it, though, since I have the HD500X so most of the time I probably won't be playing with the amp directly.
I didn't use it at all tonight but I did have a decent session on Rocksmith!
Odd that the Line 6 Variax comes with a collection of leads, Ethernet-like, USB etc but the DT25 doesn't. Does the 500x have the leads for programming from PC?
Yes, it's just a normal type B USB cable (the squarish one that's often used by printers).That and the power lead (a little transformer) are the only extra things that you get with the pod.
It's only the XLR cable between the pod and the amp that I had to buy, and that cost me 10 euros - not a big deal in the context of 1200 euros worth of equipment!It even makes sense, actually, because there are a bunch of connections on the back of the pod and they don't know what you're going to plug it into - it could be a Line 6 amp, a different amp, a PC for recording, a Midi setup etc. etc.
