There are quite a few books out there giving advice and lessons on learning the notes on the guitar. I came across this Android App

Learn Guitar Notes Free - Android Apps on Google Play

Haven't a clue if it's any good, as I don't have an Android tablet or phone. If anyone downloads it let me know! (it's free by the way).

Cheers
Phil

theres a great one called '4 chords' that a guy from work was showing me...only available on apple though.....real shame theres not an android version as it looked pretty good.

...shows the song ...what the chords are and where they go...whilst the song plays in the background

Thanks for that Philly. I've been looking for something like that.

Basic but it does the trick.

Had a good session today.

Practicing the Oasis DLBIAnger chord progression (C, G, Am, E7, F, G, C, Am, G) I am able to run through it without any mistakes and a reasonable rhythm.

Easing the grip on the neck instead of trying to leave imprints in the timber has improved my technique no end.

So, what frustrated me almost to the point of chucking it through the window last week has become quite easy, yet satisfying.

keep saying I'm going to start work on the '7' chords...only know D7 at the mo

....well 2 months on I know about 10 or 11 chords and can 'play' about the same number of songs....learnt love me do yesterday which is another nice one to play......strumming pattern took a while as usual..my first with an accent on one of the down strums

....my new favourite to play

was thinking about this yesterday......don't know if to keep doing what I'm doing ...learning songs ...gradually adding new chords ? or start adding something else to the mix ?

I'm probably in a similar place but the strumming still isn't there yet.

I'm in a bit of a rut ATM, reading up and running through the same stuff. Not really knowing where to go next.

Today is the first opportunity to give Rocksmith a proper try. I'm thinking this should put some structure to my learning and introduce a broader range of techniques.

Why not try the beginners course at Justinguitar, that way you'll be following a structured course and it'll introduce new stuff as you go.

Learning songs is good though, it's what it's all about at the end of the day.

yeah I use him a lot...and'andy guitar'...great for simplified versions of popular songs.

...both great at explaining things I think.

working my way through his beginners song book at the moment...felt obliged to buy it after using his videos a lot.

100 songs...nicely laid out book and not too bad for 17 quid...think the first song I learnt was wild thing which is stage 3 in the book....pretty easy to play and everybody knows it.

still need to crack the F..(keeps sounding a bit muted ) .then I can have a stab at 'that's entertainment'....always wanted to be able to play that.

gave it the 'big un' on wild thing this morning and broke me favourite pick !

must admit my strumming seems to be coming together a bit easier ..got a few in the bank now.
had a go at a easy reggae one the other day!....feels a bit weird ....the second I think about the words to the song it all goes out the window mind

think its another one of the things that you suddenly find yourself finding it a bit easier
