Couldnt agree more, the Elder Gods series is just dire. The constant repetition of everything in every chapter and every book is mind numbing and the ending is just pitifil. His use of Deus ex Machina has been prvelant all through his books but this just took it to extremes that were unsustainable. Just look at the reviews on Amazon tosee how bad people think they are. Loads of one star reviews.
The James Clements books are very enjoyable. I just wish he would continue his current series, it seems to have stalled aftertwo books.
Yes, another good series, the second trilogy is equally enjoyable and the third trilogy ties in with both the previous trilogys and links in her previous stand alone novels, Threshold and Under the Hanging wall.
Another good series and an author who isnt afraid to kill off his characters is always nice. I was a bit disapointed in the final Raven book though, felt like a bit of a cop out to me, but it was still betterthan a lot of other offerings

Yeah read those a while ago, pretty good. A while since I read them but seem to remember the two series flowed together pretty well and was interesting enough with the character set although it maybe lost it a touch once the Unknown was known!

Hi Nigel,
I thought this would be a better place rather than hijacking Mr Bois' thread...
I know what you mean. When book 12 came out I realised how much I'd forgotten from the previous books (too much time between them being published!) that I gave up and decided to wait until they were all out and then have a re-read.The last book, aMoL, was supposed to be out end of this year and then early next year but now it's end of next year data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7I'm on book four already so it looks like I'll still have a wait between ToM and aMoL data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7
I'm doing the re-read with help from these two sites:
WoT Encyclopedia
TOR Re-read
Which is helping me keep track of who's who and what's what.It does contain spoilers so not a good thing for first time readers.
At least I'll have the new (old by then) Pratchett to fill the gap.

I listened to all the WoT books (so far) as AudioBooks.I have a 3 hour round trip commute so I decided a few years back, rather than listening to songs and adverts repeating on the radio I would listen to audibooks instead.
Most recently, did all the DiscWorld in order - need to get Snuff now.
I'm on the 'A Song of Fire and Ice' series now.
Cheers,
Nigel

Mine arrived yesterday and I'm about 150 pages in. Not as "epic" as I believe RJ might have written it, but still good to see some of the plot lines getting resolved.
My partner looked at me like I was crazy when I told her I started the series over 20 years ago!

Just a heads up to those that may not read the 'Currently reading' thread - I am just about to finish Brent Weeks Night Angel Trilogy, and its fantastic.
There is a sample here:
An Extract from The Way of Shadows | Orbit Books | Science Fiction, Fantasy, Urban Fantasy
Got everything you want from a fantasy book, kings, wars, creatures, battles, heroes rasied from the gutter and is only missing a unicorn to tick every box in the fantasy must have checklist. data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7

Finished it yesterday - I need to take back what I said previously - it is very epic, I just don't think Sanderson portrays emotion as well as RJ did. However, that's a minor niggle in comparison to the thanks he deserves for finishing the series. A good end to an epic journey.
