Tyres - new or part worn.
Hi everyone. I know the simple answer to this is always brand new, but my budget won’t allow me to get decent tyres and so I need to look at other options.A friend of mine working at Kwik Fit has said that I’m better off with part worn tyres of a good male than I am of new ones of a budget brand. I can afford budget tyres and but would prefer to save some money and go for part worn. I need at least 3, I bought a part worn a few months ago after my last service, so I either buy 3 more part worn or I buy 4 brand new budget tyres.
Can anyone offer suggestions? What are the legalities around part worn tyres? Can they sell them at any depth do tread or is there a minimum they can sell them at etc?
Thanks. Whats your budget and tyre size? Good tyres don't need to cost the earth. Personally I'd never touch part warns, recently got some Uniroyal Rainsport 3's for my dads Octavia, £60 a corner. The size is 215 50 ZR17. My budget is £220. I’ve had to save up for a while for that. The best I have been quoted was Pirelli’s at £75 a tyre so would need a few more months for them.
Other quotes I’ve had are:
Jinyu, A3 or Landsail £55 I would never buy part worn , you don't know the history for one thing , ok , you could argue that you buy a car with part worn tyres , is up to you how much risk you want to take , said above , decent new tyres don't have to cost a fortune ...
Edit -- stay away from the budget Chinese rubbish as well ... Haha, yeah don’t think I would’ve taken the Jinyu, sounds dodgy to me. You don’t think of the Chinese as making quality car parts. Maybe I’m wrong though but they don’t spring to mind.
Anyone know what a decent make is, apart from the obvious ones? Try Asda tyres online.Cheapest I found. You order and they get delivered to your choice of local fitting centres. Yeah I got told about this earlier from my brother i checked it and could get some for £50 but they were a make I had never heard of before. Might go down that route though if I don’t find something else. r Tyres – Click & Fit at Blackcircles.com Cheers but their stock is a little outside my price range right now. No probs
