Apologies for the late replies here everyone. Lots of good advise and I’ll be sure to take it all under advisement. A friend of mine works for Kwik Fit and he might be able to help us out with something so will hang fire and see what he comes back with for now.
The reason I need a minimum of 3 is when it went in for a service the other month all 3 were advised to be changed and 1 was legally not allowed to be on the car. I bought a part worn for that last one to get me by for a few months until I could save for 4 more tyres, but if I do decide to buy part worn then I just need 3 for the advisory. If I buy new I’ll buy 4 new ones.
What's the tread depth at the moment? I normally change mine at about 2-3mm, not the legal minimum, but you often get advisories from 3mm, which would give you a good few months of normal mileage before they become illegal.
One is on 3mm the other on 4mm, one is a mixture of the two. But this was at the start of March when the service was done so not sure what they are now.
It would be worth having your friend measure the tread depth, my company will not change the tyres on the vans till they reach 2mm, while it's not great, you do learn to drive more carefully lol, that might give you extra time to save for the better tyres,
Easy to measure. Use a 20p coin and if the coin edge of the coin is showing , then the tread is too low. Link here: The legal minimum tyre tread depth - ingenie® Young Driver's Guide
There are tread wear indicators at several places in the bottom of the tread. Feel along the groove and make sure your tread depth is above the indicators.

Thanks everyone. Will take all this in to consideration. I think I might go for new ones. But which one to pick. Hmm!
