I came across this thread back in April after putting the 2018-1 map update on my car, and having similar issues with RTTI as well as the system randomly rebooting several times when the car was started.

The 2018-2 map update is now out, so I have downloaded and started to apply to my car - hopefully this will be more successful. I'm applying the update while I drive, so it will complete the update next trip out tomorrow.

Please keep us updated - my routing and speed of use has increased slightly, but is mostly still rubbish! I get the same "hesitation" of up to a minute or so, when putting in commands like cancelling, or changing route and it is frustrating!

My BMW has to go in on Monday to fix the front bumper (doh!), and I will mention it then - maybe they can update the map for me and I get the fault 'officially registered' (the car is not even 2 years old).

Well everything is working OK, with RTTI, but being Sunday not really any traffic issues to show. I'll see what it tells me about my journey to work tomorrow.

Thanks for that; I'm now in the process of downloading 2018-2.

However, even with 2018-1, it seems to have cured itself quite suddenly over the past few
days, and is pretty much back to normal.Whether it will last remains to be seen.

There is another oddity, though. It has just occurred and may or may not be connected with the above:

I don't know if you're the same, but there are one or two commonly-used routes near our house which we know (or think) are better than the satnav recommendations, so we always overrule the directions, go our own way and let the system catch up.Well, it's just started directing us on some of those routes, as though it's finally learned sense! My theory is that the same change which seems to have fixed the RTTI problem has changed some of the evaluation algorithms. Another idea is that it's been learning our preferred routes and finally decided to adopt them, but that doesn't really stand up.

And it's nothing to do with 2018-2, because I haven't loaded that yet.

BTW, if you want to know why we use satnav for well-known routes, it's normally at the end of a journey having set the home address at the start, and there are some back lanes which it only just seems to have discovered. And I accept that some of our preferences may really not be the 'best' anyway.

OK, have just loaded 2018-2.And boy, did it take ages.37gB to download to my hard disc, then it had to be copied to a USB stick, then uploaded into the car.I think the BMW servers must still use 1990s technology, because it took all night to download.

In fact, it seems no different to the previous ('cured') version, except the oddity I describe has vanished and it's reverted to its old behaviour.Looks like it was a one-off.Anyway, hopefully the whole issue is now behind us.

I haven't encountered this, but ours gives strange instructions from time to time. We use ours to/from work, so we can get early warning of traffic issues (long commute). We have alternative routes that we use, but even when 5 minutes from home, it insists that we should 'U' turn and spend 30 minutes on the motorway.

Best suggestion though was stuck in traffic on the M6. We were by a slip road and the diversion suggestion was to go down the slip road and back up the other side!

Glad I found this thread! I have a 2014 with NBT nav and after updating to 2018-1 our Sat Nav would take 5 minutes to plan a route!!

Was getting ridiculous with the delays, seems to have somehow cured itself now though as been using it a lot and find it’s back to its usual speed of routing

Yes, hopefully I think it's back to normal now.It hasn't misbehaved for a while, anyway. From what I heard, it was an RTTI problem: downloads or recalculations were hogging processor power or something.I'm not sure that makes sense, though.

I downloaded the 2018-2 maps yesterday from the BMW site and the USB installation progress got to 80% of 1/5 and then the screen went blank.I had no opp to input the verification code. The whole unit now cycles on and off.I cannot restore the previous software and when I reinsert the USB stick I'm told it contains no software newer than that which is already installed!
At the moment, I'm waiting for a response from BMW.Has anyone else encountered this?Any suggestions?Thank you.

The update will only commence once a valid code has been entered.......unless, you’ve a lifetime code previously entered.
