I’m on the latest 2018-1 maps and not noticed any issues. But i do have an issue with my ConnectedDrive.

There’s a 5 series f10/f11 thread on this here. I used to frequent this when I had a 5.

Sluggish iDrive

I just got back from my local Sytner dealer following on from a similar problem to yours.
I downloaded the 2018-2 maps for my 118i 2016 as I noticed it was still using 2016-2 maps.
Using a pc and BMW downloader I got the maps and a verification then unzipped to usb (32 gb).
Put in centre usb slot in car and updated the maps. (No activation code was asked for) all went in well and the version shown in settings is the new2018-1.
Now after 10 seconds the map shuts off and gives the connected drive logo. The radio and cd also shut down after 10-20 seconds.
So I booked in at Sytner and spoke to their tech guy who explained that BMW know and are prioritising a fix for this.
Meanwhile he managed to get into the nav screen and turned the RTTI to off.
Magic!!! All works again except no real time traffic info available. This is a quick fix by BMW for my problem but they will get back to me when the RTTI bug is fixed.
Hope this will help anyone who has been affected by this looping reboot of the I drive.

Thanks, bob.Sounds like your problem was rather worse than mine.At least mine works OK, other than unacceptably slowly.

I'd say it's still an open question whether it's to do with the download or an inherent RTTI fault.Either way, I don't trust BMW to let us know when and if it gets fixed, so I suggest we all keep a lookout & report any news on here.

For sure, if it's not fixed until after the warranty runs out, there's no way I'd pay for an update.

By the way, when your RTTI was turned off, did you lose traffic info entirely, or did it revert to TMI or something like that?

bob330 Publish time 24-11-2019 23:13:03

Hi me again
All I can say is that the other traffic icons other than RTTI are showing the “tick” over them and will check the amount of trouble spots that will be listed on my next trip out and post again.
By the way my radio and cd and phone and sat-nav all work when RTTI turned off.
I don’t want to turn it back on and see what happens, I’m lost without radio and the BBC Traffic reports, so Ill await BMW’s promised urgent fix for the map update.
My BMW Tech guy says they will probably issue a new map update 2018-2 which will fix the I-Drive problem

Hi
My connected drive played up and kept trying to reboot every 10 seconds after loading 2018-1 maps; so my local BMW said switching off the RTTI (Real time traffic info) makes all work again. Try that and wait for the BMW upgrade to 2018-2 maps. Worked for me.Obviously the RTTI doesn’t work

Thanks for the comments, guys.

How will we know when 2018-2 is ready?

mjn Publish time 24-11-2019 23:13:05

Get on the BMW Forums. There is usually a sat mav maps thread somewhere.

Just had a call from Sytner saying RTTI problem fixed tried turning RTTI back on and left it for 30 seconds then guess what it shut down again.
Called Sytners and they said other people have called regarding the NON Fix of the problem.
They have contacted BMW and their reply was ‘We’ve Done the fix over the air and it could take 24 hrs to nail the fix.
I’ll post again after 24 hrs

Thanks, bob.Mine certainly wasn't working a couple of days ago, and I was going to ring Sytner to complain. After all, in my case it's still under warranty, and they have an obligation to fix it.

But let's give it a day or two and see what happens.
