Just as a side edit.

Does anyone know if the resistor that was changed due to the recall has anything to do with temperature control?

If so , that would be my main guess as to why we have this problem, and point back to the main deal being at fault...

The resistor was almost certainly the one that controls the fan speed. They can get extremely hot and if poorly designed/housed can overheat.

IIRC The resistor recall was due to possibility of fire. As you say my understanding is that it doesn't affect climate controlled cars.

If you put it on 16 degrees and it gets cold you don't need gas. Does sound like a control problem doesn't it ? rheostat possible, or maybe the actual cabin control itself..

IronGiant Publish time 24-11-2019 22:58:27

It doesn't, if I read it right it's equally warm on lo, 16 and 28...

Crafty Publish time 24-11-2019 22:58:28

ah, I misread that as OP can only set it to 16 or 28 and nothing inbetween, but r-reading yes maybe they mean it blows warm all the time. Lets wait and see what the tech says I guess!

So

Mechanic couldn't come today and has been rescheduled for Saturday morning ..

After doing some research it seems like a flap or valve could be stuck open somewhere causing the issue .....

I suppose it depends on where it is and how easy it is to get too as to whether it's a quick fix or not ..

Warm weather too. Can’t imagine not having climate control/AC over last few days...

Just saying....

Could well be a flap stuck open or a broken flap.
Some cars are famous for this type of fault which is always caused by a broken flap...Peugeot 407 being the one that comes to mind mostly.
Sometimes you can see the flaps moving when operating the climate control, not sure on the Zafira...taking out the glove box may help to see.
I hope you get it fixed soon!
