I have decided to go for a scirocco although it's only 2.0 and 140 bhp. My insurance wants the hire car back and after seeing a scirroco 2.0 litre with 140bhp on a 13 plate and 48,000 miles on the clock I decided to go for it priced £10,500

I couldn't take it for test drive as other cars on the way although I was told he would spend 30 minutes with me and booked appointment but when I got there he was busy so didn't get to drive it or chat to him much but I thought price etc was good so gave £500 deposit. My brother did a search for me about the car and it hasn't had an mot since last June. Last mot in 1st July 2017 it failed tyre pressure monitoring system warning lamp indicates fault. I went yesterday and light came on to see low tyre pressure to be told this is becuase tyres are cold and may have caused them to go down overtime.
I then saw same date mot pass 1st July it passed but it has not had an mot since then which is July 1st 2017 should I be worried

Im buying the car from crystal garage Northampton he seemed nice guy and helpful just busy so didn't get to talk about the car as much as I would have liked but answered any questions should I have and inform me it has 6 months warrenty and 12 months if I pay £300 but garage next door sort anything that needs sorting rather than sending car to main dealer.

I have never spent £10,500 on a car before so just asking if I'm worrying too much sorry

Just to be clear: It is currently MOT'd until July 1st 2019? Make sure he pumps the tyres up and the light goes out/can be reset before accepting the vehicle.

Ok, let's try again data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7Does it have a current MOT?I assume the current garage intends to get it MOT'd for you if not.

I wouldn’t be touching it. It just doesn’t seem right. If the garage are mates then you may as well throw the MOT in the bin.

Sorry just to be clear via know my car app it tells me mot the car has had and failed in its history although only come up with last 3 years and tells me last mot it had was July 2017 so since July 2018 it's been sitting there with no mot.

He told me the car comes with 6 months warrenty but its their warrenty they have a huge garage next door that looks after the mechanical side or something and car will come with mot etc and checked if needs anything doing. I told him volkswagen reccomend changing cam belt every 5 years or 40,000 miles he said he will check up on last time it's had cam belt it's only done 46,000 miles he said if its not had one he will replace it then said if doesn't need one for another 10k he will leave it

He told me he's been there for 21 years and Crystal motors Northampton gets great reviews then see a few negative ones saying the good reviews are fake while one admin on a site noticed 2 good reviews were same ip address after someone gave him a negative review.
I wouldn't usually worry but i gave £500 deposit and car is £10,500 and you hear good stories about garages and bad so always cautious

He will mot it for me, replace a bulbget Scuffs off the alloy tyres some scratches on the car buffed out and give me 6 months warrenty and 12 months is available if I pay £300 he was just telling me the warrenty is through them so they carry out any repairs

Am I reading this correct; you are going from a Type R to a 140Hp Scirocco that you have never driven, is out of MOT and has been standing for at least two years, and paid a deposit on it already? I really hope this ends well for you, I wish I was so trusting.

J
Sounds bad when you put it like that although crystal motors Northampton has got many good reviews and its been without mot for 8 months as mot expired July last year. Hopefully works out OK its good price and low mileage with warrenty all be it withthem

Just be on your guard. There is a reason cars have a low price. Especially when bought from a garage. And please do yourself a favour. Drive it first before you proceed. It’s a heavy car with little power at best, but who knows what other gremlins are in it.
