Anyone for Tennis !

Tennis (my favourite sport) doesn't seem to be popular on here so I thought one thread will do for all the events and tournaments.

As always I look forward to January with it being the Australian Open - my favourite of the four Grand Slams. Novak Djokovic looked imperious today but of course Andy Murray will probably prove to be his closest competitor on the slow hard courts of Rod Laver Arena.

Hoping for some upsets, Federer and Del Potro maybe beating Murray in that side of the draw. I think Federer's game is more effective against Murray then Novak's is so that should be an interesting SF should both reach that stage.

I guess you're not an Andy Murray fan then. Can't believe you start a Tennis thread and want the only decent Brit to get beat. Shame on you!

This is the main Tennis thread.

It probably needs renaming to just "Tennis"

No I meant giving him a challenge. Novak's got a nice draw on paper so I don't think he'll face much competition. Murray's draw is a lot more difficult and I don't think he's got it easy against Federer and JMDP is what I meant. I don't think there'll be a close game for Novak except the final. Of the top players, Murray is one that I like fwiw data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7 It's just I think him against Federer or JMDP will prove to be a good, close tennis match unlike Novak's so I want to see a competitive match with Murray vs Federer/JMDP.

Apsilon, I thought that was a dead thread and didn't want to bump it.

your original post says maybe Federer or Del potro beating Murray. Maybe I'm reading it wrong ? Anyway well done Laura Robson.

No you're right, my mistake I worded it awkwardly.

Tennis without Nadal does feel somewhat empty. This tournament last year was superb with the top four pushing each other at the SF and F stages.

Probably the pick of the matches tomorrow will be Venus vs Maria Sharapova.

I feel a bit sorry for Heather Watson, she does seem to get the tough draw all the time. But I think she is improving.

Looks like Andy Murray is our only hope again ! I think he can do it. data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7

Federer has never lost to Murray in a Grand Slam match, if they meet in the semis I don't think that stat will change if Federer can keep the level that he had in November when he beat Murray at the O2.

Ferrer is going along nicely. He beat Nadal here in 2010 sohe's capable of causing an upset.

The big shock so far is JMDP going out to Chardy, that'll make Murray's draw easier to get to the SF.

Anyone know when Murray will face a good seeded player in this? The semi?
