Cosmos is still a significantly better spec'd headset. I think it still fills a void between ROFL-S / Quest and the Index. It's also an Index alternative to those who really hate the idea of external sensors... And it's wireless capable!

And we still don't know how the Cosmos links to your phone as was teased. If it can use your phone's processing effectively it could even rival Quest's stand alone capabilities.

Must admit I've not tried a Quest (though I want to) but I remain very sceptical about that 72Hz frame rate, even my DK2 was better!

indeed. For me the interest is in the direction quest is going rather than it being good specifically for this quest if that makes sense.

I am not sure I want to go back to 72hz either (I wrote this already, i hope it was on another forum )

my DK2 was fine at 75hz but at 72hz and 60hz I didnt like it. Also, CV1 was noticably better than DK2 even when at 75hz.

Part of me wonders if a firmware update will allow the quest to drive its panels at a faster refresh rate when hooked up to a PC... however then it comes down to bandwith limitations of the usb. They are already having to use compression at 72hz.

but maybe if possible, an option to support 72hz native or 90hz refresh rate, but locked to 45 with ASW/ASW2 would over all be a better experience?

It makes total sense to me that oculus should really tie in their mobile devices with their rift platform..... hopefully then rather than having an oculus go, and oculus quest and an oculus rift, they could just offer 2 or 3 different headsets each essentially feature comparable but with higher / lower specs and price point.

USB4.0 should launch this year.  that has 40Gbps bandwidth.  Hopefully that will solve any bandwith issues with quest 2.0.... but then quest 2.0 will likely have higher resolution and refresh rate again, which will increase bandwidth

I have a quest as well as a standard rift. And thinking back on it I`m not sure I`ve ever noticed frame rate issues on the quest.

going from memory but way back when, when talking about DK2 and CV1 I think oculus concluded that 75hz was high enough for 80% of people to feel full presence, where as CV1 at 90hz was high enough for over 90%....... and they predicted that a refresh rate to be able to generate full presence (with all other limiting factors removed) for practically everyone it would have to i think it was 120hz.

I guess with this in mind you fall within the group who are ok with the quest.

linus techtips however apparently (not seen it myself) reviewed the rift S recently and he could not get on with the 80hz of rift S compared with the 90hz of his own headset.

On the index 120 felt super smooth but 144 felt like it was doing a weird zooming thing. Sort of like old lcd motion smoothing. (Not on everything)

,£80 for a cable.   Ouch. I get it tho 5m cable active and low volume sales. If oculus are selling for that i dread to think what HTC or valve would charge. Whilst you can use any usb cable given the limitations of usb I reckon 5m may cause issues.
I wonder if once the cable is out the current usb2 charge cable will be replaced that comes in the quest box

Actually I'd rather have my Rift S just for the head strap. I'm hoping that the CV2 is going to have the same sort of head strap because I can't live without it now.

It's more comfortable and I don't need to fork out extra money for prescription lenses thanks to the eye relief. Now I'm not sure about the Quest because I haven't tried it but compared to the OG Rift the Rift S also has a slightly bigger FOV for me personally too.

Fibre cables aren't cheap! A fibre cable to extend my Index cost me £80.

I'd be more concerned about its fragility. Fibre cables are notoriously fragile and VR cables seem to suffer a lot of abuse.
