Ah thats interesting will check that when home tonight, does anyone know if you can tell they are running in AHCI by the Ultra DMA number the ATA controllers show in Device manager, IE is Ultra DMA 6 = AHCI or does that have nothing to do with it? lol

Ultra DMA 6 = 133 (MB/s) 30 ns ÷ 2 cycle time, Not Sata AHCI

You need SCSI DISK DEVICE.

Can someone please explain the real world benefit of using one of these modified BIOS?

I have read a few posts where users have stated that there is not real world benefit from using the modified BIOS in a server situation.

Here is one such quote:

man i must be stupid, because for the last 45 min i've been trying to create the bootable usb to update the bios to the modified version, and cannot do it.  I d/led the latest hp bios, ran the sp54344 app, ran the hpqusb app, and the created usb does NOT upgrade the bios.  what am i doing wrong?  after i run hpqusb, there isnt even a rom file.

oh man, finally got it.  had to run hpqusb through the flat file folder

Hi
I want to use all SATA ports for my datastore so i've patched the bios and i've installed a USB card reader CF to boot my nas

I've used:
- Kingston FCR-HS219/1
- Kingston 266x 16GB compact flash

This system works but sometime i found errors because the card reader is not enought fast
Then i've bought the next generation card reader (with UDMA)
- Kingston FCR-HS3
it supports USB3 an promise great performances..
.. but bios does not recognize it!!

can you help me with a patch ?

Pulling my hair out trying to create this USB.  Downloaded the relevant HP software, yet all it seemed to install onto the USB is a copy of my downloads file. Removed all this and it installed a handful of files, none of which included a .ROM to swap.

Tried reinstalling a handful of times and have also tried on a different PC with the same end result.  Any clues as to where I am going wrong?

I have already installed WHS 2011 on the pre-installed disc in the N40 and want to move it to the DVD drive position as it looks like many of you have already done.

i only intend to use this drive for the OS and other propgrams like Plex/squeezeserver?
Therefore is there any point changing the BIOS to allow ACHI rather than IDE as will the additional speed really give me much improved performance for these programs/OS

Thanks in advance

There are two stages to this.

The first, when you run the downloaded file, extracts the contents to a folder on your hard drive (e.g. C:\Drivers\Softpaq or similar). You must then go into this folder and run another .exe file to create the bootable USB.
