Just starting this thread as the conversation within the Orbi thread was going widely off topic (loads more info there for anyone researching this set up)

Ive had mine in about a week, so far really impressed and happy to try and answer any questions you may have.

Mine's going great in general, and the whole set up really impresses me but im having constant drop offs from my Macbook Pro - apparently its fairly common and used to be fine before a recent update.

Its extremely frustrating, and a constant pet hate of mine that an update can and frequently does screw up some top end piece of tech.

Im doing a bit of research, hopefully some logs or records will show why its losing connection.

I seem to have my set up working really well now. The macbook problem above was solved with a wired connection to the disc, not ideal but it solved my problem.

Does having a wired connection affect or disable that discs ability to broadcast WiFi? It's in my office at home, which is about 15ft from an outside shed I use. Yet the shed is a wifi blackspot. At the back of my house however we have a wood cabin about 40ft from the house and that seems to  get a reasonably consistent signal but would be connected to a different disc (I have 6 in total)

Having the wired connection will enhance the WiFi performance for that disc as it's not using the WiFi for backhaul so it's WiFi is dedicated to connected devices or WiFi backhaul connected discs.

On Windows 10  PC latops changing Roaming Aggressiveness to low in Device Manager fixed the connection issues I was seeing with Intel and Killer WiFi chipsets.

Thanks, I took a look at your link, alot went over my head but glad to see im not the only one with the problem.

At present the wholehome set up is working as well as I can hope for. I dont think it will ever be perfect but I seem more capable of fixing issues than I was before, and its certainly a huge improvement over my previous set up.

Restarting the network via the app doesnt seem to fix much. Generally if I am having problems, I turn all the discs off, then fire up the first one and give it a few minutes, then gradually switching the rest on in the approximate order they connect in, a couple of minutes apart.

Thinking of taking the plunge on this, anyone had any issues apart from MacBook Wi-fi?
I need to get decent WiFi into my snug and have tried everything from power lines to extenders. So this is my last resort before saying sod it and putting cable in.

Depending on what router you have? if its an Asus AC one get an other and use AImesh will pork out cheaper than BT whole home.

Considering these or an Apple time capsule to give me an increased Wi-fi setup albeit the TC also gives back up options.


Has BT put a new update out to fix the problems from the previous updates or are there still reliability issues.

Hi, there seems to be a lot of noise on the BT forums about drop off and connection issues following the Feb 2018 firmware update. Has this now been fixed? I’m looking to buy a mesh system and am trying to decide between the BT system ( three units for £179) or Google WiFi (two units for £189).

Any current observations on the BT system would be appreciated, particularly the reliability and coverage of the system. I’m buying for a typical 1950’s semi detached house.
