On Board Sound Issue

The only other thing I can think of to check whether this is a software problem or a hardware problem is to make a Linux live DVD/USB Download Ubuntu Desktop | Download | Ubuntu and boot off that and see if you get sound, after that I think you have covered all the bases you can. Make sure there isn't a BIOS update available (yes I know we are clutching at straws here), If you have connected up the HDaudio cable properly then check the rear jack for a fault/short to ground. After that it is almost certainly a hardware fault on the board so I would RMA the board back to Asus
