HDR is the next big jump in picture quality, as big as HD was and much better than all the duds of recent years (3D, 4K etc.). It's more lifelike colours and contrast.
However, right now the technology to do it well is expensive and very little normal TV supports HDR. 'HDR' on cheaper TVs is just compatibility with the HDR formats, and little to no extra dynamic range.
Unfortunately the TV market right now is focused on pushing these new technologies rather than displaying the content being made right now in high quality so it's difficult to spot the good TVs among all the pointless advertising claims - especially at the cheaper end of the market where not many reviewers are working.
Obviously buying into future technology you don't have a use for yet is accompanied by giant DANGER signs. I wouldn't spend any extra for that.
So the Vestel is a perfectly reasonable choice - especially if you can get your local Currys to demo it on the sort of content you watch (rather than demo videos, every TV does a good job with ultra high quality material). |
