I have a Sony Bravia KD65XE7003 purchased in February. I’m starting to notice in dark scenes or when something a dark colour is on the screen some faint lighter stripes across the screen, is it the backlight bleeding through?

I’ve noticed it too when the camera pans during the World Cup. Like stripes of slightly lighter and darker areas.

Any ideas how I can reduce this with the settings?

I’ve attached a photo, the photo makes the light areas look really white, it’s nowhere near that bad in real life but it does show the stripe pattern I’m seeing.

Yes its bad screen uniformity, can be reduced somewhat by reducing the backlight level. You should also make sure you have your TV in the right picture mode, for Sony I think Cinema or True Cinema is the name. Gamma settings can play a part too.

It's the number one complaint from any TV btw, a lot depends on how lucky you get with the panel with some TVs generally fairing overall better than others...it's one of those things once you notice it you can't help but notice it more.

I will say it can also get worse in transport, particularly if the TV is knocked about a lot or carried/transported in any other position than upright.

Thanks I’ll play with the settings then, the TV was stored upright for about a week after delivery then went straight on the wall and hasn’t been moved since.

If you have just purchased the TV and you are unhappy with its uniformity then arrange for it to be exchanged or return whilst you still can. It's hard to judge from a picture because each photo will have different exposure levels but it looks like you got pretty unlucky to me.

If its too old to get a refund/exchange then it may be worth considering asking for a warranty claim/RMA for a panel replacement. It can be hard with screen uniformity because it's always very subjective and sometimes it can just be normal but if you feel it's too bad to live with, almost certainly try to get an RMA.

@DevonMike @Ninja Wolfman own the 55" version, same VA panel. Would you guys think this is really bad? Do you have any pics saved of your uniformity?

Different sizes of course but this looks pretty bad for me. I know @DevonMike returned one or two TVs for uniformity issues.

Thanks, I bought it in Feb and have the 5 year warranty with John Lewis. I’ll be interested to hear what people’s opinions are with their sets so thanks for tagging them.

I’ll play with settings later and see if I can improve it.

I’ve been playing with the TV almost every day now and I’m not able to reduce the clouding issue. Seems pretty bad in the bottom right corner mostly. I definitely notice it in darker scenes I may look into getting it swapped.

In general I’m not having a great time with dark scenes, dark areas seem to be pitch black but have a kind of glow to them, they were also a bit blue in colour but turning down blue gain fixed that.

I’m not really getting detail in shadow unless I increase black level to where it’s washed out

Does anyone think bias lighting might help?

Just to revive this again...I stuck with the TV but am becoming more and more disillusioned with it. I am struggling to get any detail in blacks without turning the 'black level' right up, the striping/clouding is also still very noticeable.

If I do an exchange is it likely the same problems will occur? Is this just how it is for 65" at this price point?

Which type of TV technology should I be looking at that does not suffer from this clouding issue?

Had an engineer sent by John Lewis yesterday he looked at the TV and agreed that there is a problem with a panel, the TV also has 4 separate clusters of dead pixels now!

Anyone think they will repair it or will they offer me a replacement?

I’m still after an answer to my question above? Do I need to switch to OLED to eliminate inconsistent lighting on the panel?
