This is the reply I got from Amazon

....I’m sorry to hear about the problem you’ve had with your Toshiba TV.

From you email I understand that you contacted Toshiba but they were unable to help you as the TV was purchased from Amazon.co.uk

I can see that you purchased the Toshiba TV on 30 October 2007. Your Amazon warranty for this product is valid for 2 years from purchase date.

In this case I would advice you contact Toshiba again and explain that you no longer have a valid warranty with Amazon.

You can contact them on: 0844 856 0730
.....

Precisely what I thoiught I would get and exactly what I told Toshiba first time round would be Amazon's response.

So I have the option of waiting for 30 mins on their 0844 number to talk to  Toshiba again and hope they relent and agree to do the repair or buy a new TV
Its probably going to be a new TV as Toshiba quoted me 10-15 business days to do the repair before Amazon came up on my last call and I might want to watch some TV over Christmas.
I still think Toshiba Customer Service Stinks

Bought out warranty doesn't apply to this issue so Toshiba will fix it for you FOC provided it is an affected model.

No, not ignoring your very useful information. I told the person I was talking to that my understanding was that it didn't need to be taken away, but they point blank refused to acknowledge it. I pushed the point as I really don't want to lose the TV for however many days it will take, but no joy. In fact i'm now really stressed out as although the tv isn't too heavy at 42 inches I just don't know how on earth i'm meant to put it in the box on my own.

In fact they went on to say that it needed a new part. Perhaps they are updating the hardware to avoid the issue from happening again?

Aw for gawds sake man you must have a friend, relative or neighbour who can help you lift it into the box which will take all of 1 minute.
At least it'll be repaired properly by the manufacturers technicians and the sooner it gets to them the sooner you'll get it back.
I'm pretty sure they'll do their best to get it back to you before Christmas as the last thing they want is an unhappy customer and service depts usually do their utmost to clear their benches at this time of year.

I have plenty of friends and family, but none who want to come and spend between 9am and 6pm hanging round my house. I'm hoping I might get a phone call to give me some preparation time in which case all will be well, otherwise i'm not sure. I do have neighbours, but one does shift work and the other, well they never speak to anyone.

Well i'm hoping its back way before xmas, you know how it is, when you have the TV you don't want to watch anything, but knowing its going away, all I can think of is all the films and games I want to suddenly play or watch

This was why I wanted a visit rather than have it collected however Toshiba's agent from Milton Keynes managed one step by this approach but didn't get any futher and we didn't see the set again for two weeks

No, I hadn't.

Not contributed to this forum for some time as the management don't value my technical help.

Got the email about this thread and still can't believe Toshiba are collecting these sets for a 2 minute firmware update which can be done on site. Accident waiting to happen.

Can't fault their customer service though. Absolutely unparalleled in the consumer electronics industry. No other manufacturer would be doing this after 4 years.

Back into hibernation I go... ready for some more sun next week.

Some service partners will come out and install the update in situ.

Unfortunately some won't and just send a man in van and pick up.  Depends on where you live and how the nearest service partner works.
