I might be unusual for an AV Forums member. I only upgrade my TV when there is a new feature I need or want. Last time was because I needed more HDMI inputs about five years ago, the time before because I was upgrading to 1080p … probably 10 years ago?

I know the manufacturers want people like me to upgrade to 4K now and buy a new set … but I don’t see the need for 4K in my setup. I can’t see any new tech on the horizon that will entice me so I’m likely to keep my current set for some time yet.

I only upgrade when necessary, or when I have a really good deal. The last 4K TV I had was the 55HU8550, and I bought the Evolution Kit in 2015. This year, I replaced that TV for the 55C6P OLED.
The Samsung I moved to the other room, and I'll eventually replace it for something but for the time being, it's fine

I've upgraded once in 24 years.  In about 1993 I bought a second hand sony trinitron nicam stereo 26" for £120.  This year I replaced it with a Samsung 49" KS9000.   Reckon £5 a year was pretty good value.

I was getting fed up that i couldn't read the menus from virgin media as they didn't fit a 4x3 screen, also once the analog tv signal was switched off, the nicam stereo stopped working too.

Since i've acquired the spare living room at home i've had 3 TV's...wasn't a set plan for each upgrade, i just get bored easily and want the "latest and greatest" (and was lucky to have people at hand to buy my old tvs off me). 32" Sony - followed by 46" Sony (big old chunky one) My current tv is a Samsung 46F8000 (think 2013?). Purchased as it had Plex in the app store, and that was when i ventured into digitising my movies. Its the best tv i've ever owned. This one is wallmounted. No need to change yet as its serving its purpose, but with the dawn of Xbox One X i'm starting to look into 4k OLED & HDR yadadada - got lots of reading to do though.

I'm still running my Pioneer 5090 from about 7-8 years ago and I still love it.  It was my first PROPER TV about a year after we bought our first home trading up from a fairly cheap 32" LCD.  I skipped the 3D phase as after trying it numerous times didn't actually see what it brought to the table.  I don't have a huge requirement to go 4K just yet and to be honest everything still looks great on this TV.  Plasma seems to handle sports so so well, and without spending a huge amount of money again, newer technologies don't seem to be able to handle them as well - please prove me wrong

I currently have a Sony KDL-37EX503 that we bought in 2011.  Before that I had a Panasonic 32" widescreen CRT that we bought in 2001. Prior to that I had a Hitachi 25" CRT that I bought in 1994. The move from the Hitachi to the Panasonic was due to the TV developing faults (lines down the screen). The move from the Panasonic to the Sony was due to space constraints - we had moved to a smaller house and the Panasonic took up half the living room!  I don't tend to follow latest trends in TV.  I have no interest in 4K or a TV that I can control by waving my hands.  I will replace my current TV if/when it develops any expensive faults, or when somebody gives me a better one

21" 4:3 Panasonic in 1996, only had 1 scart input!
28" 16:9 Sony in 2004, I really wanted the 32" but girlfriend at the time said it looked too large!
46" Sony KDL-46W4100 in 2009
65" Sony KD-65ZD9 in 2017

Every since I've had a proper job and been able to afford it I prefer to go high end and then keep it for a while. Unless something major happens I'll probably keep the ZD9 for a minimum of 5 years.

I tend to upgrade about every 4 years or so. Although I usually feel like a change after every couple of years but get talked out of it by my wife. I currently own a Samsung 37 D6530. Since having this tv I've not had the urge so much as the picture quality is still pretty good but is now being left behind by 4k tv's. Unfortunately Im not sure how long it will last as sometimes it wont switch on until i fiddle around with the hdmi leads then for some reason it turns on. Cant replace it as funds are tight with my first baby arriving not long ago. Will probably wait until this one dies until replacing.

Still rocking my 50" Panasonic Plasma ST60 from January 2014.
Before it was a Panasonic 42PX80  bought for the euros in 2008.
I only upgraded because plasma was getting culled.

Current tv does everything I need it to with the exception being in bright sunlight, but hey I work for a living and don't sit around watching daytime television! People still comment on how good it looks.

I won't be changing until OLED gets sub £2000 for a 65" or like plasma it gets binned and I'm forced to buy one or face a ULED Quantum dot marketing BS LCD
